Differentiating levels of detail (LOD): illustrations and explanations
Based on the objectives of a project and the uses projected around the digital model, the aim will be to define the LOD of the various lots and objects modelled.
Defining the right level of detail is crucial to obtain a model adapted to its use, and to optimize modeling costs. However, some clients may have difficulty choosing the right LODs, in a context where few modeling standards are generalized. This is why we suggest that you Discover in this document what these levels of detail correspond to for several selected lots, in particular by specifying:
- The degree of fit between the model and the point cloud, when the modeling is carried out using a scan to BIM method
- Modeling details applied to different lots and objects
- Specific information, which can be associated with objects.
In this context, we emphasize that This document is not intended to present an official nomenclature, but rather to share the fruit of our experience, by offering a fairly broad repository of information that is applicable to a large number of projects.
As part of our business, This base allows us in particular to correctly guide our BIM projects, to offer a clear framework for our customers and partners, while maintaining a certain flexibility in modeling.
