Level Of Information (LOI)

What is the Level of Information (LOI) of a digital model?

The concept of Level Of Information (LOI) refers to the level of non-graphic information associated with the digital model and the objects that compose it. This term is not to be confused with the more famous Level Of Details (LOD). These two concepts are complementary.

While LOD refers to the level of geometric information, LOI refers to non-graphic information associated with 3D objects. For example, data relating to the resistance of a production line to maintenance operations or to the materials composing an object can be associated with objects in the process of BIM modeling, and increment their LOI.

In conclusion, the LOI will aim to define a level of description of the various BIM objects in a model.
