Inertial unit

What is an inertial unit?

One inertial unit (or IMU for its acronym in English” Inertial Measurement Unit”) is a high-precision location system. It integrates various components such as gyroscopes, acceleration and angular speed sensors.

This system will measure the orientation, speed, and position of a moving object.

Why do 3D scanning solutions include an IMU?

Today, some dynamic scanners incorporate an inertial unit. This system allows them to identify the movements and movements of the scanner in the environment to accurately estimate its orientation and linear speed throughout the scanning process.
